So like I said, I left school yesterday with a cough and a headache, and my class has been shut down until Wednesday, etc. But my host mom took me to the doctor (a Rotarian, chyeah), who gave me the flu test (exceedingly painful, they shove what is essentially a 6-inch Q-tip up your nose), and it came back negative. But he was all like, "Oh, it still could be in it's early stages, so please come back tomorrow for another check!" I was completely dumbfounded. Firstly, my host mom was able to set up a doctor's appointment only 2-3 hours in advance. In America, it would be at least the next day. And then the doctor told me to come back the next day. In America, or at least for me, the doctor would be like, "Oh, it's probably the flu, just take some Ibuprofen and drink water and you'll be better in no time." And I would, and all would be well. Japan doesn't screw around with it's health care. It was actually really terrifying at first (ie I had to walk into the office through a separate "flu peoples" door O.o), but now I know it's just Japan.
Anywho, I went back today, and surprise surprise, I do have the flu T_T I actually feel fine aside from a headache, and I'm not refusing to eat or anything, like a how a normal sickness would be... Either this flu is a pansy, or being in Japan has made my immune system pretty super amazing ^-^ But either way, I'm sure they're going to ban me from school for at least a week, joy. And I have to wear a face mask, XD I look like a cross breed between a bird and a human when I wear it. Oh and ps Mom, they gave me Relenza to take because Tamiflu has been reported as giving teenagers hallucinations. I highly doubt taking the Tamiflu would hurt me, but they don't want to risk it. They don't give it to teens here.
Love ya'll, and I'll try to post the questions my class asked me soon- although it may be a little while, because all of the questions are at school, which I've been banned from. But nonetheless. まあ、ね~

Hallucinations? Really? Well that explains something. But I'm not a teenager. Hmmm..
ReplyDeleteJust because you feel okay at the moment, don't run off doing cartwheels and 10k's. Take it easy. Anticipate that it'll get worse before you're over it.
Looking forward to the questions. As for the candy question, I've asked around. Honestly, I had no idea that Japanese candy lacked vivid colors (are the wrappers really colorful?). The general consensus is that the bright and shiny object (candy) is more distracting, and perhaps more desirable? Also, it's easier to distinguish (at least most of the time) the flavor; bright red is strawberry (or cherry, or spicy cinnamon, or watermelon, or maybe raspberry). You know what? Forget the whole "easier to distiguish" thing. Bright and shiny (eye candy). Visual stimulus. I'll think on it some more.
Any news about the camera? Are you getting my email? Are you receiving me?
I love you.
Get well soon.
about the candy thing, in foods last year i kinda-sorta remember learning that the brighter the color of the food, the more focused and enthused the eater, when the eater is a kid...
