To calm you down

I think my last post freaked some people out and now they think I'm depressed or something... I'm fine, promise! I just wanted to point out that there are bad things here, too.

In other news, today is my host mom's birthday, so we're going out to eat tonight. I hope it's sushi, but whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be delicious! And I've recently been teaching a guy in my class "normal" English during English grammar. It's so much fun. I teach him proper slang and tell him when the textbook is screwy (which is quite often), and he teaches me new Japanese words. Everyone wins :D

Alright, that's it for now. Just wanted to reassure you I'm not turning pessimistic or anything.

Jaa, ne!

  1. A lot of things that you experience there are so far removed from what I've experienced (I know, I need to get out more). Imagining being on a train packed in like sardines, and that some of those sardines are not so savory... well, it would weird me out a bit.

I didn't sense you were getting depressed/pessimistic from your last post. Perhaps a little miffed, but that's understandable.

You taught me a little something... about the Japanese Constitution. I'm embarrassed to admit I wasn't aware it was rewritten. Makes sense, though... given that it used to be a Monarchy (with Emperors and all) and these days they're electing their leaders.

I'm learning a lot from your experiences, Reese. About the culture, the people, and the place. I'm finding that some of the predisposed ideas I had about Japan are not quite right and sometimes completely wrong.

Although I worry more than I should about you over there, I'm still happy, proud, and excited about your being there. As I read your posts, I sense a strong empathy you have for the people (especially women), and I see you becoming a strong, independent minded, beautiful young woman. I know I say it a lot, but I really am proud of you. :o)

So... yeah. Keep posting and I'll keep reading. I love reading the wonderful things that you're writing.

    I love you.

    Padre
