I currently live in Japan and am trying to learn it's culture (and so on and so forth).
WHO DO I ROOT FOR???
This has been quite the dilemma. In Japan, watching the Olympics isn't something people do all that much- quite different from America (or at least my city and all of the media), where we follow them almost religiously. So while nobody else here really cares about who I cheer on, it's got me in quite a tangle.
For the most part I've been sticking with the US, but I had to make an exception for this diva:
Daisuke Takahashi.
Watching him figure skate is like watching a drama. It's so much fun. He won 3rd in... something. Forgive me for not being able to understand the newscaster-people lingo they use over here D:And that's my two cents on that. I hope everyone's enjoying the winter games! I'm hoping to go see the 2016 Rio Summer games because I've got Bruno as my link to Brazil :D
(ps- I didn't intend for the guy's name to be all bold like that, but Blogger malfunctioned while I was writing it and I figured it was fate, so I let it be)
Talk to ya'lls later!
Hey there, I don't know what program you're with, but just wanted to say this:
ReplyDeleteI went to Japan for a year with rotary last year, and its ridiculously nostalgic to read through your posts. Thanks for writing them! It sounds like you're going through some tough stuff lately, but I also thought it was worth mentioning that this is the time of year things are toughest for most exchange students. I think the happiest part of my time in Japan was from about April onwards. Anyways, I hope you have lots of fun:
頑張れ!行けるよ!
Always enjoy watching the Olympics! You know that. And Takahashi won bronze in the men's figure skating. It was actually a pretty exciting competition.
ReplyDeleteYou're being read by a lot of folks, Reese (just so you know). It's good to see you've got people who can identify with what you're going through. And so... it really will get better! :o)
*hugs* and *hugs* and *hugs*
Oh. Ummm. I was thinking the term "diva" is.. a word to describe a female? Or.. it could be that I'm a little behind the times. Yes, this must be it.
ReplyDeleteSo I was thinking.. you've been there a day or two shy of 6 months now. That's amazing, Teresa! So I'm thinking that with the arrival of Spring (in a few short weeks), things are going to get much better. More daylight, warmth.. it's all good! By April or May, I have this feeling you'll be writing about how much you don't want to leave Japan.
I am so proud of my daughter. So glowingly proud.
sadly there's no one quite like michael phelps or those gymnasts this time, but whenever i hear one of those morgan freeman visa commercials, i think of you! :D
ReplyDeleteoh, and i may or may not do a project on japanese art for my ap art history class, it depends on what my teacher decides. but if i do i'm going to have some questions for you!
love love love
morganne
I had the same thing while watching the olympics!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for writing this!
it was sad cause america was winning cool things and japan was
kicking ass at sports (games?) like curling and other things that
nobody knows the rules/and or points to.
I decided to cheer for that really cute japanese skier girl who I don't know the name of. After that I gave up cause Japan wasn't winning anything.
Note:yeah japanese guy skiers are total divas. they are very nice to watch though.
