What I can't stand...

So every now and then, there's these ads that show up on the radio and tv. Usually they feature some mediocre product, lots of flashy baubles, bright colors, etc, and that's all tolerable. What I can not stand are the voices of the women in the ads. It's essentially the equivalent of that hideous, American, annoying teenage girl thing where the entire sentence is completely flat until the end, where the tone slides up like a question. These women in the ads speak like everything has exclamation points ("This FOOD is SO DELICIOUS! I CAN'T WAIT to BUY it for SEVEN NNNINETY-NINE!!), and at the same time they sound like little, frilly girls. It's not even like the Billy Mays thing where he just yells facts facts at you- no, what they do is say the most pointless and childish things in their most trilling, excited, screaming voices. Now that I can understand what they're saying, it just annoys the EVER LOVING GOD out of me. At least while I was still learning the basics I could pretend that maybe, just maybe they were talking about intelligent, less degrading-to-women topics and using greater than a five year old's vocabulary. Alas, I was wrong. I really don't know which ticks me off more about those commercials, they way the girl-women talk or how they seem to degrade women. I wanna see a man do one of those ads. That would make my life.

On the other hand, this are 2 very random commercials that I LOVE!

The beginning is the best part. I didn't really see it coming. At all.
Very Creepy Panda
Trippy much?

I like this one because it has Peach Fanta and it's really... Japanese...
The commercial I can understand!

Talk to ya'lls later. I'm seeing Avatar tomorrow, SWEET!

Jaa, ne~

  1. Hey T, the Louis Vuitton advertisement is part of a design campaign done for LV by a very famous Japanese artist named Takashi Murakami (http://www.takashimurakami.com/). You should look up his philosophy of Superflat. It might help explain some things you've already observed. - J

  2. This is Marius Mink from the Taiwan Exchange blog. :D Btw.

Wasn't Avatar amazing? I've seen it twice now!!!

And I TOOOOOTALLY agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really, REALLY can't stand the female voices here. Not just on the TV, but in real life. There are places I avoid now b/c the people who work there are sooooo annoying.

I asked one girl and she said the reason they do this ridiculous voice is b/c "the boys like it." What?! What part of that is attractive at all?!

I don't know what to do about it. It's EVERYWHERE. And the trying to look like you're 19 when you're 45 and the trying to look like 3 when you're 20... it's not okay.
