Just when I go and write that mad post

Matsuda Shouta is here to cheer me up!

Sometimes I think Japanese TV is crazy and weird; other times it seriously cracks me up. See, there's this drink called Protein Water by one of Japan's biggest drink companies, Suntory (the other big ones I can think of are Kirin and Asahi- know either of them?). In one set of their commercials, they feature one of my favorite Japanese actors, Matsuda Shouta, doing some sort of weird face-off with big guys in speedos, and... just watch.

Original
It's Summer!
Sparkly

That "Sparkly" one is the brand new one I saw on TV and the one that inspired me to find the rest. Still, nothing beats the guy with the cane commercial, but the "It's Summer!" one comes pretty close. That little jingle will get stuck in your head all day!

ps- "hosomacho" means a skinny guy, and "gorimacho" means a buff guy, essentially. Both are... um, popular with the ladies right now. Hence the ad.

Always glad to share a little Japanese TV with you all.

Laters ^-^

  1. Hey, Reese? That jingle.. 1975.. Van Mccoy.. was a huge hit. I remember that and another instrumental jingle from the summer of '75 called Pick Up The Pieces (Average White Band). Thinking about it now, the 70's had quite a few "get stuck in the head" jingles.

Thirty five years later, and the song is as jingly as ever.
