A Whole Bunch of Stuff: Part 3

Part 3: The Cave

I really don't have a lot of time to be on the computer anymore now that school has started back up, but please enjoy this quick blurb on the cave :)

The day after Oneechan's birthday, my host sister told me we were going to a cave. I thought, "Oh cool, a cave." Well, we started driving out into the countryside (Shiga has a LOT of countryside, bythebye), which is of course extremely beautiful, and eventually came to a small group of houses next to a shrine and a trail. We paid for tickets to walk the trail, and then started a trek up a mountain. It wasn't bad, really, aside from the snake. Apparently there's only 1 kind of poisonous snake in Japan (the pit viper), and that wasn't it, but hell if I'm going to screw around with anything with fangs. My host sister actually didn't realize it was there, and she was next to it when I stopped walking and said, "S-soko wa h-hebi... *tear*" But she didn't care at all. I was the one who had to be pushed past it. Usually, I'm not terrified of snakes, but I just happened to have had a nightmare about snakes the night before, so yeah. Please excuse that pathetic behavior :)

Anywho, we eventually reached a rock wall. I tried to find the trail, thinking it was a dead end and we'd gone astray. That's when Masami randomly disappeared into a hole in the ground, and I realized we had reached the cave. The cave was pretty cool, aside from my camera not wanting to take shake-free photos in the dark, so everything came out blurry. After seeing all we wanted of the cave and having found a way to climb out of the place, we went home.

Other than that, school started back up last Thursday, and apparently my Japanese got 2x better over break, according to the teachers. Suuurrreee, sensei, whatever you say... I also met Nayomi, an Aussie exchanger who's been here for a while, on Saturday, and that was tons of fun :D It felt really good to speak normal English with a teenager again! Sunday was the welcome party for 2650 exchangers, so I got to meet up with all them peoples again. Except for Susan, who's in the hospital right now. Wish her well, everyone! She really needs it right now!!! But yeah, the other 3 plus Nayomi made for a pretty good time. I'll tell you more about all of that craziness later, but for now, good night!!

And please, please comment so I know you all are still reading this. I'm writing this for ya'll back home mostly, so let me know you're still checking it every now and then!

Night! Jaa ne!

  1. I'm checking every day, my dear. EVERY day!

I'm also checking into arrangements for next summer's trip to Japan to see you. It's a long time away, I know. But it makes me happy to think about it.

Who is Susan and why is she in the hospital? Oh... and did you get my care package yet?

I love you, Reese. Still miss you much, much, much. Did lunch and a movie with Tim the other day. We talked a lot about you. I might just get him to come over and see you next summer. I hope.

I'm still reading your posts, baby. Keep writing them. When you can, please.

    Love, D

  2. Totally reading it -- totally! I just created a bookmark for Muti on your grandfather's computer so all she has to do is click on the link and your blog shows up. She's thrilled to be able to read it. She'll try to post comments, but that may be a little more complicated for her. Love, love, love you!!! :)
